At the international conference “The Challenges of Today”, organized by the Polytechnic of Šibenik, UNIRI-FABRI presented posters of its ongoing Interreg projects, highlighting innovative approaches to sustainability, biodiversity protection, and circular economy
Showcasing Innovation and Sustainability
During the event, the Faculty of Biotechnology and Drug Development (UNIRI-FABRI) showcased its involvement in two key Interreg projects:
- PREBIODUNES – protecting coastal dune biodiversity and reducing tourism pressures by developing sustainable management strategies for fragile coastal ecosystems.
- RECONNECT – advancing innovative methodologies and AI-based tools for mapping and piloting activities, enhancing community resilience, and supporting the transition towards a green and circular economy.
The poster exhibition provided excellent visibility for the projects, fostering discussions and collaboration opportunities with both national and international partners.
The conference gathered experts, researchers, and policymakers to exchange insights on environmental protection, blue economy development, and sustainable community growth. UNIRI-FABRI’s contribution emphasized the role of science-driven innovation and interdisciplinary cooperation in tackling today’s environmental challenges.
Participation in such events helps strengthen project visibility and expand networks of stakeholders working toward sustainable transformation in the Adriatic-Ionian and Mediterranean regions.
RECONNECT combines Open Innovation (OI) methodology and AI-based tools to transform aquaculture waste into high-value bio-based products.
This process boosts resource efficiency, minimizes pollution, and encourages symbiosis across industries and borders.
Through pilot projects, joint networks, and policy contributions, RECONNECT ensures long-term impact and replicability beyond the project’s duration.
“Events like this are essential for sharing knowledge and connecting projects that work towards the same goal – creating resilient, sustainable communities across Europe through innovation and cooperation.”
